An Open Letter to Myself Before I Turn 45 : Embracing the Future

Dear Me,

As we approach this milestone of turning 45, I can’t help but reflect on the journey that has brought us here and the path that lies ahead. Aging hasn’t always been easy for us—in fact, we’ve had our fair share of resisting it. But now, standing at the threshold of this new chapter, I find myself embracing the future with a newfound sense of excitement and purpose.

Remember when we used to dread getting older? The wrinkles, the gray hairs, the inevitable changes that come with each passing year? It feels like a lifetime ago. Now, I see aging not as a burden, but as a privilege—a chance to grow wiser, to embrace new adventures, and to appreciate the beauty of each moment.

One of those adventures includes our dream of moving out of Missouri to a small town, you know, like Schitt’s Creek! A place where community thrives, quirky shops abound, and every day feels like a page out of a storybook. There, I envision opening a kitschy little shop—an ode to adulthood mixed with the nostalgia of the Scholastic Book Fairs we cherished as kids. Imagine shelves filled with books that spark imagination, quirky decor that delights the soul, and a cozy atmosphere where customers feel like old friends.

And in the evenings, rocking on the porch next to Joe and watching the sun dip below the horizon. I can’t think of a more contented way to spend our days. It’s not just about settling down; it’s about living deliberately, savoring each moment, and finding joy in the simple pleasures of life.

So, as we approach this milestone birthday, let’s celebrate not just the years that have passed, but the dreams that still await us. Let’s embrace the future with open arms and a heart full of anticipation. Let’s cherish the journey, wherever it may lead, and remember that life’s greatest adventures often begin when we least expect them.

Another day, another slay,

You
